Our Mission

To empower, advocate for, and foster multiracial community and identity at Bowdoin College.

We aim to...

  • Create space on campus for students who identify as multiracial to feel a sense of belonging, connecting students with similar identities through dinners, meetings, and events.

  • Increase campus-wide programming and dialogue surrounding multiracial identities to bring more visibility to these narratives.

  • Create an inclusive Bowdoin where we acknowledge, celebrate, and make space for intersectionality. For all the in-betweens, for all the parts of us we can’t put into this box or that one.

How it

Started

It all began with a conversation over lunch, as we--founders Ayana Harscoet '21 & Flora Hamilton '21--realized we were two of a handful of multiracial students from our class year. Feeling homesick, a bit confused by how we fit in at Bowdoin and Maine, and realizing that this experience is shared by many mixed students at Bowdoin, we created Bowdoin MRSU in the spring of 2019.

MRSU is a welcoming home-away-from-home for students whose identities exist at intersections, whether they identify as multiracial, multicultural, or multiethnic.
